Nvidia has finalized a strategic investment of $1.5 billion into SB Energy, a developer backed by SoftBank, to anchor a massive data center project in Pike County, Ohio. This facility, located at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus, is set to become the primary engine for OpenAI’s future compute needs under a 20-year lease agreement. This infrastructure play represents a significant vertical integration of the AI supply chain. Beyond the initial equity stake, Nvidia is providing a financial backstop of up to $105 billion in credit guarantees to ensure the completion of the site. In exchange for this financial shield, Nvidia will serve as the exclusive provider of AI compute infrastructure for the campus.
