Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta have significantly increased their 2026 capital expenditure forecasts to build out AI data centers, even as massive infrastructure costs begin to strain corporate cash flows.
The digital arms race has entered a new, high-stakes phase as the world’s largest technology providers commit unprecedented capital to artificial intelligence infrastructure. According to recent second-quarter financial disclosures, the collective capital expenditure for Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Meta is now projected to exceed $700 billion for 2026. This surge reflects a desperate scramble to secure the chips and data centers necessary to power the next generation of agentic AI, even as these investments begin to weigh heavily on the balance sheets of the Silicon Valley elite.
Amazon has emerged as a primary aggressor in this expansion, raising its 2026 capex forecast to $220 billion, up from a previous estimate of $200 billion.
